Offenses recorded by the police
On the basis of figures from six police forces extrapolated to England and Wales,
there were an estimated 340, 000 offenses involving theft of phones recorded by the
police. These figures will not reflect the fact that not all mobile phone thefts are reported.

The police figures showed that 4 in 10 phones were stolen in other’types of
theft and about two in ten from cars.
